A Warm Hug Stitched with Love
Material Girls Quilt Guild Donates Handmade Quilts
Recently the Material Girls Quilt Guild began donating beautiful handmade quilts to the women of Abby’s House, and has donated 51 quilts to date! Guild Member Marianne (at left, with some of the donated quilts) says that each quilt is a warm hug stitched with love, and that the guild has a goal of donating a total of 78, one for each woman in our housing and shelter programs.
Since 1996, the Material Girls Quilt Guild has been meeting one day per month, September through June, to share the art and craft of quilt making with quilters of all ability levels. In addition to hosting educational programs and guest speakers, members also contribute towards the Comfort Quilts and Projects Program. This program donates warm quilts, hand-made by individual guild members or groups of members, to hospitals, nursing homes and other agencies.
In addition to the 78 quilts that will be donated, Material Girls created a large quilt for the Spring-Tacular auction, (pictured, at right) and are currently sewing a 40th Anniversary quilt for Abby’s House.
