Pat Korandanis has been an active Abby’s House volunteer for over 10 years, since 2008. Pat has dedicated her time to supporting various Abby’s House events, chairing the Spring-Tacular Annual Auction, as well as assisting with the Abby’s House Annual 5K Run/Walk, Fashion Shows and Holiday Bazaars.
For many years, Pat spearheaded the auction committee for Spring-Tacular. Her commitment to coordinating the details, soliciting donations, photographing items, and showcasing the auctions, was an inspiration to many on the event planning committee and helped to raise critical support for women and children at Abby’s House. Much of the groundwork that goes into the auctions as part of Abby’s House fundraising events was created and perfected by Pat.
For the past 4 years, Pat has been volunteering her time in the Abby’s House Thrift Shop. She is an integral part of the Thrift Shop Volunteer Team, ensuring that all the women’s shoes put on the Thrift Shop floor are cleaned, sized, and priced. During the pandemic when the Thrift Shop was closed temporarily, Pat sorted, cleaned, and organized hundreds of shoes from home! Pat has taken over the handling of the shoes in the store, and at any given time, you can walk into her house and see an assortment of shoes in her living room.
Pat exemplifies the values of Abby’s House and founder Annette Rafferty. At every opportunity, Pat spreads the word about Abby’s House and the women and children served. As Thrift Shop Manager Wendy Harvey said about Pat, “I have had many volunteers come in that have said that they heard about Abby’s House through Pat. Volunteers are the heart of Abby’s House and Pat definitely has Abby’s House in her heart!”
Pat’s volunteer work shows her dedication to ensuring that the women and children of Abby’s House can find the support and care that deserve. As Pat said of this honor, “To volunteer at Abby’s House is to become a part of a family. Witnessing the strength, love and compassion of the staff, volunteers, and women here has been a privilege. I share the 2022 Annette Rafferty Award with my husband Art and the many friends I have made while serving the women of Abby’s.”
