WORCESTER — Abby’s House, the largest women’s shelter in Worcester, takes the stage to Mechanics Hall Friday night for its 40th anniversary celebration. The fundraiser will feature speakers, awards, a three-course dinner and music from the group Decades by DeZyne, which will cover tunes from the past four decades.

The gala culminates an almost yearlong series of events highlighting the services and advocacy that Abby’s House has provided. The most recent gatherings, a luncheon on Oct. 13 and a performance night on Oct. 19, focused on domestic violence.

The intimate luncheon, in honor and remembrance of survivors and victims, took place in the shelter’s dining room, which was adorned in the purple representing Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As the event began, shelter advocate Parlee Jones read out the names of some of these women followed by a minute’s silence.
