For roughly 100 years, 52 High St. has provided safe, supportive housing for women – first through the Sisters of Mercy and, since 2001, through Abby’s House.
Now, after a $16.2 million renovation, the adjectives beautiful, bright and uplifting can be added to that housing description as wood floors have been refinished, woodwork freshly painted, systems updated, windows replaced, kitchens added, and more.
And that has transformed the building into more than just a place to live.
“The women are always just happy to have a safe place to live and are happy to have all of the services that we have here, but now they’re actually in a space that’s very uplifting and dignified and they deserve to be in a space like this – they’re worthy of it,” said Stephanie Page, executive director of Abby’s House. “To do the work that they need to to rebuild their lives and move their lives forward, this is a great space for it.”
