Abby’s House in Worcester was founded in 1976 as one of the first shelters for homeless women and children. In its 40-year history, it has helped more than 13,000 women reclaim and rebuild their lives. In addition to emergency shelter, Abby’s House provides 77 units of safe and affordable housing across four properties, as well as advocacy, education and support services to battered, homeless and low-income women. Abby’s House receives no government funding for its $1.3 million budget. It has 21 employees and more than 200 volunteers. Stephanie Page was named executive director in September 2014, after completing her master’s degree in theological studies on the role of values in organizational culture. She is a graduate of Brown University and also holds a master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and has worked for more than 10 years in the nonprofit sector.
