Position Title: Overnight Shelter Staff
Position Status: Part Time, including evenings and weekends
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Associate Director of Shelter Operations

Position Overview
The Overnight Shelter Staff is responsible for staffing Shelter between the hours of 11:30pm and 8:30am. This position allows for sleeping in a dedicated staff bedroom between the hours of 12:00am and 6:30am, with the expectation of responding to any needs or emergencies that may arise during the shift. Overnight Shelter Staff help maintain a safe, secure, and respectful environment for shelter guests. The Shelter Staff works under the direct supervision of the Associate Director of Shelter Operations. This position requires the ability to work nights and weekends.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
The following is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all of the responsibilities and requirements associated with
this position.

  • Ensure that the shelter provides safe, sanitary, hospitable and respectful short-term housing according to the policies set by Abby’s House.
  • Assist with orientating new guests to shelter rules and processes.
  • Ensure guests are all up and out of the shelter by 8:30am.
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety and support to shelter guests as needed.
  • Keep an accurate, complete log of occurrences during shift.
  • Enforce established shelter guidelines and ensure guests are upholding a safe, respectful community environment.
  • Complete housekeeping tasks during morning shift including taking out garbage, running staff laundry as needed and stocking supplies.
  • Communicate with the Associate Director of Shelter Operations on an on-going basis and participate in housing team meetings.
  • Provide emergency coverage as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and annual evaluations and be committed to ongoing growth and improvement in the position.
  • Maintain the confidentiality standards of Abby’s House and exemplify compassion, hospitality, and respect to the guests and residents at all times.
  • Perform additional tasks as necessary.
