Thrift Shop Sales Associate
Position Overview
The Thrift Shop Sales Associate’s/Key Holder responsibilities include assisting with day-to-day tasks related to shop operations including greeting and assisting customers, processing sales on the register, and other tasks in the shop as needed during scheduled hours. The Sales Associate/Key Holder position is primarily a front/community-facing position which requires the ability to work effectively with a diverse and inclusive community including staff, volunteers, guests/residents, donors, partner agencies, and the general public.
Responsibilities include, and are not limited to the following:
Responsibilities
- Opening and/or closing the shop for each shift
- Follow procedures for balancing and reconciling cash drawer with supervisor at the end of shift (if closing).
- Ensure delivery and receipt of daily cash by Finance personnel
- Process sales at the register for patrons, including folding and bagging goods.
- Respond respectfully to customer inquiries and/or complaints and ensure customers are provided with necessary assistance and advice while in the store (escalating to manager as needed).
- Respond to any emergencies or serious problems that may arise, following Abby’s House protocol and trauma-informed practices (including escalating to manager).
- Promote all sales and products promotions.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the Thrift Shop sales areas and remove all trash at the end of each day.
- Ensure the store is always kept free from all trip or fall hazards and any other safety issues.
- Work with the thrift team to prepare for and implement seasonal turnovers.
- Work with the thrift team to coordinate and implement special events.
- Provide assistance with accepting and processing donations as needed
Other Duties
- Participate in both Thrift shop and Abby’s house staff meetings, trainings and annual evaluation.
- Maintain confidentiality standards of Abby’s House and exemplify compassion, hospitality, and respect to the guests and residents at all times.
- Support social media communications
- Perform additional tasks and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Passion for Abby’s House mission and values.
- 1- 2 years of relevant experience in a retail setting or similar, working directly with the public.
- Ability to collaborate with volunteers.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Spanish speaking abilities highly preferred.
- Team oriented.
- Reliable and on time.
- Ability to work weekends and occasional nights as required.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Lifting may be required for 10%-70% of a workday, dependent upon the flow of donations.
- Ability to stand and/or sit for a minimum of 50% percent of scheduled shift
Salary & Benefits: This position is part-time, Monday, Friday, Saturday 9:00AM-3:30PM Schedule subject to change with advanced notice. The position offers a competitive wage with generous benefits.
