One look at our Running Calendar, and there’s no shortage of road races this October. It doesn’t take a knee surgeon or tree surgeon to know it’s the finest time of the year to run.

And with the fine conditions come the brilliant scenery of fall. The visuals indeed add to the experience, allaying the occasional agony of exerting for that final mile, and the climate is often friendly to finishing times.

Autumn colors arguably can be brightest on the second weekend of October, and one event takes tremendous advantage of that, while raising funds and awareness for the most deserving of causes.

The ninth Abby’s House 5K Walk/Run returns Oct. 13, starting and finishing at West Boylston High School (125 Crescent St.), following along the circumference of the Wachusett Reservoir. Enjoying this scenery while running can be extremely easy on the eyes.
