Preservation Massachusetts honors projects in Worcester, Northboro

Lynn Cheney is doing the best she can to keep her Main Street business going through the pandemic, and a plus for her has been the historically renovated building she chose to locate in. She opened the doors in February.

Cheney owns Maker To Main in the Central Building at 332 Main St., one of a handful of businesses operating along Main Street in the downtown area during the pandemic. Her business, selling fresh produce that is locally sourced, is fortunate. Commerce Associates and its owners renovated the 94-year-old building, allowing Cheney to create her 2,000-square-foot market.

The effort was recognized this month by Preservation Massachusetts, which presented the developers with one of its Paul and Niki Tsongas Awards for historic preservation. The organization also honored Abby’s House in Worcester with a Tsongas Award, for its renovation of its 100-year-old property at 52 High St.
