Daughter of woman aided at Abby’s House now helps at Worcester shelter

Janet DeJesus was not safe in her home in Puerto Rico where violence was present. Wanting a better situation for her two children, she fled in 1995 and came to Worcester.

After spending the first couple of months trying to figure out their next steps, DeJesus, 64, and her family moved to Abby’s House in 1996.

“I was in danger and I wanted a better life for my two children,” DeJesus said. “It was pretty scary at first, having to leave everything and having to start over again with two little children. But I had the strength, and Abby’s gave me the support I needed.”
